bebbsie23 napisał(a):The biggest problem with this release is Paramount's usual Achilles Heal, the dog sh*te encoding. As mentioned previously, the opening credits are so bad that I pulled up the playback info and low and behold the bitrate barely makes it out of the 20s and often dips lower.
After the opening credits, things improve somewhat, but the bit rate is typical B-Team schizophrenic encoding that jumps between highs in the 90s and lows in the 0s. Taking the composited effects shots out of the equation, I'd put this in the same ball park as the US/UK edition of The Firm. If you are sitting at a casual viewer distance or have a small-moderate sized TV, you may find 70-80% of the presentation acceptable/pleasing, but it absolutely doesn't stand up to any kind of close scrutiny. I watched most of it 2.6m from the screen and enjoyed watching this more than the recent Stardust (in respect of the visual presentation), but at 1.5m, it isn't hard to spot the abundant hallmarks of a typical botched Paramount presentation. It absolutely deserved a better encode than this.
Shame on you Paramount for diminishing yet another perfectly good master of a high profile/beloved title with terrible/lazy encoding!
