Cytat:The credits are rolling on Mummy 1 and....wow. Just wow. From out of nowhere Universal have come up with one of the best examples of a 35mm finish laid down onto 4K HDR, it's THAT good. An apology is in order from myself for ever doubting you fine people who said it was much improved, y'all weren't kidding.

I can only offer my Armchair Expert credentials (which aren't worth the paper they're not even printed on) but IMO there's no way no how this is an uprezzed old telecine verging on 20 years old, it looks like a brand new transfer to me. The image is spotlessly clean and very stable with a beautifully fine dusting of grain and the detail is fantastic, there's not just fine detail but true filmic texture with very little of the haloing that plagued the former HD releases. And the CG work itself has had plenty of detractors over the years, myself included, but damn most of it holds up brilliantly. Some shots are shite but so much of the movie is given over to practical effects and stunts and locations and sets that any goofy CG doesn't matter a jot, it's WONDERFUL to see an action adventure movie that isn't wall to wall greenscreen.

There are plenty of shots where the resolution noticeably dips, but do you notice how it always happens on a subtitled shot or on an editing effect like a dissolve or a wipe? Them's be old-fashioned opticals and they are what they are, it kills me that "pro" reviewers still can't distinguish such things. The HDR is excellent too with all them torches inside the dark depths of the Mummy's tomb and the blacks, oh mai, the blacks are gorgeously rich and inky. There are several shots where a flame just emerges out of the darkness and on the ZD9 the rest of the screen is pitch black while the torch moves about. Unreal.

Mummy Returns:

Cytat:In comparison to the first one this is indeed a step down. Detail seems to taper off in the mid-distance rather than being as crisply resolved as on #1, the grain is much less refined, there's plenty of EE in certain shots and it really does appear to be the old transfer uprezzed, I spotted the same telecine judder in the exact same places and even the same specks of dirt.

BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT........it's still a half-decent effort despite all that, amazingly enough! I popped in the Blu-ray to compare and bugger me, it's like comparing the DVD because the UHD resolves FAR more spatial detail. That might sound like hyperbole but I'm not kidding, the detail has been rolled off something chronic on the Blu. The HDR also brings a huge benefit to the highlights, with clouds and flames bringing up lots more highlight detail and the blacks aren't as crushed down either for that matter.

The EE is troublesome but what's strange is that it's not a constant irritant, one shot might look perfect and the next like over-sharpened shite. Seeing as this movie made use of digital grading for certain shots (no, not a full DI but they could still grade digitally and record back out to film, Spider-Man also took advantage of this) it wouldn't surprise me if they jazzed up a few exterior shots with a bit of sharpening.

So.....yeah. Clearly it's the old transfer uprezzed and given some HDR spit and polish, but it still manages to absolutely slaughter the accompanying Blu-ray. Not the best advert for 4K UHD in and of itself then, but a very nice little upgrade for fans of the film. Guilty as charged.

I odnośnie tych screenów na HDD:

Cytat:Riddhi old son, those "shots" are SO far away from representing what La Momie actually looks like I think that's put paid to any last shred of respect I have for HDD and their "pro" reviews. To be perfectly blunt: that review is complete and utter horseshit. IMO this is a fresh new "image harvest" ( RAH) and it's been given the respect it deserves with an HDR grade that works for the movie's original look, instead of the other way around.
