Like the Three Colors trilogy, these shorts look the best right now unless we get an even better alternative as Curzon’s encoding struggles heavily here and there. There is the same kind of frozen grain all over the place, although less heavier in motion than during the trilogy.
I contemplated buying their Wim Wenders Set for their really fantastic selection of many of his films which haven’t seen BD’s anywhere, even in Germany, but I likely hold off on that for now.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m very grateful for this set and the short films as bonus - especially Talking Heads is phenomenal - but still a pain to see how much better they could have made it to deliver a truly definitive edition. Packaging-wise beautiful, way ahead of the flimsy Criterion. Superb bonus features (although the new interviews with Julie Delpy, Irène Jacob, Marin Karmitz and introductions by Annette Insdorf weren’t ported over from the MK2 / Potemkine discs) and the lack of any sort of noticeable filtering are major advantages over the others.
